HONORS ALGEBRA

Prerequisite:  Pre-Algebra or Freshman placement by math department.

Algebra is a branch of mathematics that is an important stepping stone to higher mathematics and very useful in today's technological workplace. This course develops basic algebraic concepts in a problem solving and systematic way; turning arithmetic into Algebra by using letters to represent unknown numbers, and continuing to find the unknown numbers through both algebraic and graphical means. Topics include: a review algebraic concepts, solving one and two variable equations, functions, finding and using linear equations and inequalities solve problems, finding and using quadratic equations to problems, absolute value functions, graphs of equations, solving systems of equations and inequalities, rules of exponents, one two variable statistics and probability. Students with average mathematical ability should take this course, as it goes at a slower pace than Honors Algebra. Algebra is a college-prep course.

Required Items: A TI-84 graphics calculator.
