CAN
YOU SEE IT?
WHAT TO DO.....
1. Take a close of up look of the dominos in the frame. Do you notice anything familiar when looking at them close up?
2. Now, walk away from the board, at least 10 feet away, and take another look at the pattern of dominos. Look to see if you can notice a pattern with the dominos now.
What Happened?
When you looked at the board up close, you most likely did not notice any form of pattern at all. When backing up, you should have noticed the pattern of dominos become clearer. The pattern forms an image that your eye perceives to be Albert Einstein.
This pattern can be perceived, because of the way the human eye and memory system in the brain works. When looking at the picture close, the eye can pick out the dots individually, making it hard to see the pattern of the dominos. When moving farther away, the eye can not pick out each individual dot anymore, because of its limited focusing abilities, and the dots seem to blur together. Also, the human brain has an image of what a person, or what Albert Einstein looks like imprinted in it, this allows the brain to perceive it as a picture of Albert Einstein. Finally, when you are far enough away from the picture, the dots appear to overlap, and instead of seeing white dots on the black domino, you can see shades of gray, white, and black, which creates the image.
Pointillism...Pointillism
is a form of art which uses many small dots that may number into the thousands,
and sometimes of different colors, to create an image that can be viewed at a
distance from the piece. This style of artwork really came into its own in the
early 19th century. One famous artist who used this style was Georges Seurat.
