Wisconsin Letterboxes of
Antiquity Homepage
This box was
placed by Capt. Jim in November, 2002. As there were only a
few WI letterboxers at the time, most of us got to stamp in before
it, its counterpart Boerner
Botanical Gardens, and Attack Goose suddenly disappeared. Speculation centered on
the Wehr/Boerner staff, and has now been confirmed. Capt. Jim
reports that the
land manager for Wehr (Mark Verhagen) emailed him that our hobby is
not an acceptable activity and to remove the boxes as soon as
possible (paraphrased). Capt Jim did pull his two boxes
immediately, so they are preserved, but sadly retired.
Considering this report, Dragon is happy to report that
Wehr's
Waldo is still alive and kicking - so take that Mr. Verhagen!

Clues:
Stand at the
Wehr Nature Center sign at the south end of the parking
lot. Note the visitors' center directly ahead of
you. There are six different trails that you can take
to enjoy the nature center area. Start walking to the
north east. Take the first path on the right and walk on the
woodchip path to the lake. Proceed north to the dam
and have a seat. You are facing the lake to the south
with the dam on your left. Take the path on your
right and proceed north. Note the split rail fence on
your right. Forty-five paces. The letterbox is in the
triangle formed by the end of the split rail fence. A
piece of tree bark covers the letterbox. You can
continue around the lake. Enjoy your time at the Wehr
Nature Center.
